Learn how to make Achari Chicken Recipe, one of the most popular Chicken recipe with chef Neelam only on Get Curried.

Achari Chicken is made with all the spices one would normally use in an Indian pickle. The best part about the dish is the red and green chillies. They are so much flavored with the spices in Achari Chicken that you could eat them too. Serve this Tasty Achari Chicken with any roti or plain rice.


750 gms of Chicken
8-10 dried Red Chillies
3 Chopped Onions
3 Tsp of Pickle Spice Mixture ( Fennel seeds, Nigella seeds, Fenugreek seeds, Mustard seeds & Cumin seeds)
2 Tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
3-4 Tomatoes
2-3 Green Chillies
1 Tsp Turmeric
1 Tsp Chilly Powder
1/2 Cup Yogurt
Juice of 2 Lemons
Salt to Taste
2 Tsp Pickle (Optional)
2 Tbsp Ghee


-Take 750 gms of boneless Chicken in bowl and add juice of 2 Lemons, Salt to Taste, 2 to 3 sliced Green Chillies and leave it to rest for some time.
-Heat a pan, add 2 tbsp of Ghee, 8 to 10 dried Red Chillies, 3 roughly chopped Onions, 3 Tbsp of Pickle Spice Mixture ( Fennel seeds, Nigella seeds, Fenugreek seeds, Mustard seeds & Cumin seeds), Ginger & Garlic paste and cook it well.
-Now add 1 tsp of Chilly powder, 1 tsp of Turmeric powder, Salt to Taste, 3 TO 4 Tomato Puree and stir it well.
-Add Garlic pickle and cook till the oil separates.
-Now add the marinated Chicken and add 1/2 a cup of Yogurt and cook it well til it gets soft and moist.

Spicy and Yummy Achari Chicken is ready to be served Hot!

    1. Don’t worry about the spiciness of the dish if you use yogurt in the recipe. In fact, it would taste a lot better if you add a cup of tabasco sauce in to counter balance the yogurt’s creamy sourness.

  9. Hi Neelam , i wish to try your recipe but i have a few doubts. they are as follows

    1. The Paach Puran can i make it at home , if i do do i have to roast them? or soak the methi seeds? or just put them in raw?
    2. Can i use my homemade mango pickle?
    3. Can i skip the yogurt part as my husband is lacto intolerant? will that reduce the flavour of my dish… or can i just put a teaspoon so that it wont bother him?
